Temptations

We live in a world full of tempting opportunities and lustful pleasures and as Christians, we should overcome every form of temptation. In this post, I want to share few scriptures that should encourage us to stand firm on the Lord's side and resist the enticement of the devil and his cohorts.
THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY OF ESCAPE:
"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it." -1Cor. 10:13
When we are faced with temptation, the devil make us believe we are too weak to overcome it and that there is no way of escape for us but God has encouraged us that He (God) can be trusted not to let you be tempted too much. He will show you how to escape from such temptations. Never believe the devil's lie of no-escape. even before you are faced with temptation, trust God's word.
PRAY WITHOUT CEASING:
"Watch and pray that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." - Matt. 26:41
The Bible instructs us to pray so we will not enter into temptation. See, even before you are faced with temptations, pray, pray, pray....Most times, while we are faced with temptation, the best course of action is to flee! Therefore, as Jesus rightly said, pray that you won't be tested because the flesh (this body of ours ) truly is weak.
THERE IS A REWARD:
"Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love Him." - James 1:12
We all love receiving awards for what we have done. Everyone loves being acknowledged. God promises a great reward for our ability to overcome temptation. He loves us and always wants the best for us. When faced with temptation, do not focus on how weak your flesh is or how tempting the devil is really coming at you; but look ahead at the CROWN OF LIFE that God has kept for all those who overcome. God will reward you if you do not give up when your faith is being tested.
SUBMIT TO GOD:
"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." - James 4:7
Most times, we are all so carried away by the situation at hand and all but we forget who truly is the Master of the universe. The Bible instructs us to submit ourselves to God and resist the devil, then he will flee from us. Submitting to God implies obedience to God's word and humility to accept His grace. Being obedient to God's commands always keeps us away from the devil's path. Surrender to God!
GUARD YOUR HEART:
"But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed."- James 1:14
Looking back truthfully, you can attest to the fact that most of the times you've come into temptation was when you'd started out on a wrong path. You might have gone somewhere you shouldn't, or said something you shouldn't or just done what goes against God's instruction.
"Keep your heart with all diligence for out of it are the issues of life." -Prov. 4:23
Therefore, a very good solution (not the only) is to stay away from sin by guarding your heart and your actions. It is not just enough not to do what is wrong but failing to do what is right is also a problem. The Psalmist said, "Thine word have I hid in my heart that I may not sin against you." Psalm 119:11.
Dwell on God's word richly. Pray unceasingly and always weigh every word, action and thought against God's word. Keep close watch over the company you keep because the Bible says, bad communication corrupts good manners.
