The offering that keeps on giving

Dana Royces looked discouraged. All they need is $400 to get the work completed. "How can this be?" she thought. Jim, Head of Finance, just stood there with a sullen look. They had done all the cuts they could but money cometh not. *** The pastor walked to the pulpit, took the mic and with no iota of excitement, he said, "We will now take the offering to support missions. We implore you to give to the work of the Lord. Remember, the Lord loves a cheerful giver." He dropped the microphone and went back to his seat among the elders of the church. Uboho did a mental calculation of how much she had left. It was about N450. She'll spend nothing less than N150 to take keke home. She planned to buy a few things on the way home. She looked into her wallet and fumbled through the notes, looking for the least currency. She pulled out N20 and squeezed her palm tightly shut. Meanwhile, the offering basket was making its way towards her. Stopping to receive cash from

Arguing about doctrine

We argue so much about the fine points of doctrine, but the Bible says that " Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ." Eph. 4:16 What was Apostle Paul's instruction about controversial issues? Let me rephrase my question. What does the Bible say about controversial issues? Titus 3:9-11 "But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless. Warn a divisive person once, and then warn them a second time. After that, have nothing to do with them. You may be sure that such people are warped and sinful; they are self-condemned." 2 Tim. 2:23-27 "Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Opponents must be gentl

How to keep a spiritual journal

Dear diary... That's a familiar phrase, right? Especially to the ladies. Can you imagine stumbling on an old diary, and as you flip through the pages old memories come flooding in. Usually most of these memories are beautiful and amazing, and sometimes really bad. As you read through the diary, just to catch up on the good old days, your heart beats a bit faster; you feel a stirring or two... You even get to remember why you made some decisions, and ultimately, you get to see how far you have come. Seems diaries are good after all. There's also a diary I encourage us to have, guys and girls alike; whether you're a writer or not. Let's call it a journal. I'm talking about a Spiritual journal. What should it contain? Every single thing about your spiritual life viz: your walk with God, encounters, dreams, impressive Scriptures, God's specific instructions to you your struggles, prayers, hopes, visions, revelations, in fact, EVERYTHING. Apart from the

Many times people read that Scripture with a negative mind of condemning speaking in tongues, but that's not right. Inasmuch as Apostle Paul was comparing Speaking in tongues and Prophecy, he was not condemning any. So take some time out to draw out the benefits of speaking tongues as mentioned in that passage.

7 ETERNAL REALITIES

As a Christian, I hope you're well grounded in these truths: 1. Christ's offering was once forever Hebrews 9:12, "Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by His own blood He entered in once into the Holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us." Hebrews 10:10, "By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. " 2. Christ is seated at the right hand of God Hebrews 10:12,13 "But this man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God. From henceforth expecting till His enemies be made His footstool" 3. We have eternal redemption Hebrews 9:12, "Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by His own blood He entered in once into the Holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us." 4. We are perfected forever Hebrews 10:14, "For by one offering He hath perfected forever them that are sanctified." To

JOHN 3:16

"Murder, no Adultery, no Theft, no He has committed none of such in deed." "How about in the heart?" Galyphus asked, his cloth gleaming white. "I'm afraid none of such," Paumytithus replied. Yinsf sneered and cast a proud look around. His gaze landed on a nine year old. She was shaking profusely, and looked like a piece of rag in the hands of the giant. "Rubbish! Who do they think I am?" Yinsf thought to himself, "I know they want me to bow down to them. I'll do none of such." A firm grip on his upper arm brought him back from his thoughts. "Let's move on," said Paumytithus and calmly took Yinsf to the Second table. There was a longer queue, so they waited. Yinsf had been a moralist while he was alive in the human body. A firm believer in the doctrines of his religion. He upheld and taught the tenets of his religion faithfully. He had been a good man, known by all and sundry in the little community.
