Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

I read a book titled: The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

It was a story that truly depicted the human nature. The story was about a man who had two natures but all his life, he had subdued the devilish nature and upheld a more upright status in his community as an academic doctor. As he grew older, he was overcome with the desire to unleash the devilish nature.
He achieved this by the use of a chemical substance mixed and prepared with his own hands. Hitherto, the devilish nature truly overcame him and he could no longer switch between both natures. Finally, his end came and he was doomed with a devilish and murderous nature.
W
e are all born into this world with a sinful nature. As we grow older, we indulge more and more in sin. Those who have strict moral and religious beliefs TRY to avoid doing what is wrong and so, I call it "the struggle." The Bible tells us that we have to be born again to be free from the dominion of sin and to live a godly life that pleases God. Christ died on the cross of Calvary to take away the sins of the world. For those who believe and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, the gift of eternal life is given to them and God's Spirit dwells within them. It is a matter of choice. However, God truly desires that all should come to repentance and none should perish.
When you become born again, God's Spirit dwells within you and helps you to live an upright and  holy life. God's grace is available for every believer.
Titus 2:11-14 says, "For the grace that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us that He might redeem  us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works."
This means that when you become born again, you do not struggle to overcome sin but with God's grace, you resist the devil and have dominion over sin. When you accept Christ's forgiveness and salvation, you receive the grace to live above sin.
The Bible says, "But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name." John 1:12 " and of His fullness have all received, and grace for grace." John 1:16
However, you still have two  natures-the old nature and the new nature. Whichever nature you feed and grow, will have dominion over you. If you submit to sin, then your old nature of sin will rule over you but as you grow in the Spirit through prayer, Bible study, fellowship in the Spirit and with other believers, the Spirit of God will rule over your life.
The world is sinful so we are always fighting and subduing the old nature. It is a daily, hourly, by the second war-no rest! A preacher once said, "It is a sour fight till the end." But the Bible is always available to teach and aid us. The Bible says, "Walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other; so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led by the Spirit, ye are not under the law." Gal. 5:16-17. As you have seen, it is another case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde but you are far off better than him because it is not just a good nature you possess but the very Spirit of God in you.
So, this is a post that is encouraging you to come to the Lord's side. Why do you prefer to struggle with the ability to stop sinning when you do not have it in you to do so. We can only overcome sin with God's grace and this grace is in abundance in Christ Jesus. All you have t do is acknowledge your inability to overcome sin, repent of your sinful nature and accept God's forgiveness.

Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I am a sinner and cannot save myself. I receive your forgiveness and the grace to live a righteous and a holy life. I accept you as m Lord and Saviour. Come into my life and make me a new person. Thank you for your gift of salvation. Amen

God loves you and does not want you to perish that is why "He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16
