Arguing about doctrine
We argue so much about the fine points of doctrine, but the Bible
says that " Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in
every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ."
Eph. 4:16
What was Apostle
Paul's instruction about controversial issues? Let me rephrase my question.
What does the Bible say about controversial issues?
Titus 3:9-11
"But avoid
foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law,
because these are unprofitable and useless.
Warn a divisive
person once, and then warn them a second time. After that, have nothing to do
with them.
You may be sure
that such people are warped and sinful; they are self-condemned."
2 Tim. 2:23-27
"Don’t have anything
to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce
quarrels.
And the Lord’s
servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach,
not resentful.
Opponents must be
gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them
to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape
from the trap of the devil..."
Can you just calm
down and allow the Lord speak through you in LOVE? Arguments don't change
people. God does. However, many times, you're most probably not even correct
about the opinion you hold.
Trust me, as you
grow spiritually, you'll learn that some things you held on to were not true at
all.
Remember, strife
and division are marks of spiritual immaturity.
