     Recently, I have been reminded to start living what I learn. You know, it is not just enough to go to school but to actually put to practice what you have learned. The Bible is very clear about DOING and not just HEARING or STUDYING. Christ’s Salvation is not just about the knowledge. It is the Experience.
There is this Bible verse that bothered me a lot. Philippians 4:8-9. It reads, “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honest, and just, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about these things that are of virtue and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me-everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.” I used to ponder over and over again on it. I know a lot of things that are true, honest, just, right, pure, lovely etc. Quite a lot of them. I found it so hard to do.


     Finally I stumbled on a clear and simplified explanation of the verses above. Let me share them with you.


PHILIPPIANS 4:8


Finally, brethren whatever things are:


TRUE: Revelations 3:7,”…these things saith He that is Holy, He that is TRUE…”


HONEST: John 8:45, “and because I tell ye the TRUTH…”


JUST: Matthew 27:19, “…have thou nothing to do with that JUST man…”


PURE: 1 John 3:3, “…even as He is PURE…”


LOVELY: Songs of Solomon 5:16, “…yea, He is altogether LOVELY…”


ADMIRABLE: Mark 7:37, “…He hath done all things well…”


VIRTUE: Mark 5:30, “And Jesus immediately knowing that VIRTUE had gone out of him…”


PRAISE: 1 Peter 4:11, “…that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be PRAISE…forever and ever. Amen”


…now think on these things.


HMMMMMMMM. So, it has been this simple. All I have to do is to focus on JESUS CHRIST.  He is altogether lovely, pure, just etc. simply focus on Christ. That’s all we have to DO.


Philippians 4:9,


LEARNED- Gained from reading the Word of God


RECEIVED- Gained from experience with God


HEARD-Gained from exhortations by ministers/servants of God


SEEN-Gained from observation of true Christian character in others


So therefore, DO and what next?


THE GOD OF PEACE SHALL BE WITH YOU.


Jesus says in John 13:17, “Now that you know these things; you will be blessed if you DO them.”


It’s all about the doing. Forget about all these stuff people say about God judging the heart and not being focused about the appearance. Yes, he does! But we have forgotten the context in which that came. He referred to the things we human judge others by-statue, physical body make-up, prestige, education etc. Even the Bible says, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he!” remember, it is not just about memorizing the Bible verses, you should also DO as it says.

Thankfulness

Oh! How much we love the words THANK YOU, PLEASE and SORRY. It is part of etiquette and politeness. I have a friend who is very good at it. She says these words as frequent as she says I. This little act of courtesy really moves me. I like it a lot. Though it was a little bit hard for me to practice and also took a long time for me to get used to it. When I finally did, I felt wonderful. It was nice and pleasing to be around people saying those three things clearly and boldly. I gained the respect and friendliness of a lot of people. A good attitude begins with gratitude. As these three things are essential in our daily dealings with our neighbours so are they important in our relationship with God. In fact they are the most important words in our prayer. REFLECTIONS

I love new beginnings especially new sessions. As a student, a new session means another chance to make things better. To grow to become a better friend, sister, student and colleague. I look forward to correct my wrongs and employ new habits and attitudes. I wrote this short article to encourage you towards new beginnings.        As we look up the calendar of a new activity, we come face-to-face with the fact that our days are numbered in life. As the Psalmist wrote, “Teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” No thoughtful person can start anything without some introspection.
